Orchid flowers (Epipactis helleborine). Close-up of a cluster of flowers grown by the broad-leafed helleborine orchid. The cup-shaped pink/white lip on each flower is a specialised petal to attract pollinators to the flower. This orchid is found throughout the temperate regions of Europe and the Middle East, in woodlands and by streams. It is also found in North America, but is not native to that region. It is a terrestrial orchid (an orchid that grows in the ground). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
