Electron flow. Computer model of electron flow in a 2-dimensional electrical landscape. The pattern observed depends upon both the initial conditions and the electric potential. The electrons enter at two different points to spread over the landscape. The red areas show overlap between the two streams of electrons. The electric potential is random, so the pattern is chaotic. This is confirmed by the observation that the two patterns are independent. In a non-random landscape, the two patterns would be determined by the landscape and would combine where they meet. In a random landscape, the path history determines the pattern. This model was created as an artwork by Professor Eric Heller.
