The Mosque of Kalon (Kalyan), the Mir I Arab Madrasa or Madrasah or Madrassa and the Kalon (Kalyan) minaret, Bukhara (Buhara), by Unknown Artist, 1514 - 1536, 16th Century. Uzbekistan, Bukhara. View of the minaret, 1127, massive and markedly tapering toward the top. 50 meters high, its building was ordered by the Qarahanide Arslan Sah. The solid cylindrical body is laid on a polygonal base, perhaps recalling some Abbasid architectures, and then rises gently tapering toward the top. Then, following a relief star patterned band, the top structure of the minaret broadens gradually, beginning from a sturdy base of muqarnas supporting a vertical loggia. 2009 photograph.
