Zoology - Insects - Odonates - Dragonfly - Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum). This dragonfly, belonging to the Anisoptera infraorder, has body lenght ranging from 35 to 40 mm. Like any other odonate included in the same infraorder, Sympetrum sanguineum has a massive abdomen, and wings (the rear ones being larger at the base than the front ones) which are brought in resting position horizontally opened as to the body. The male has a bright red abdomen, while the female's one is yellowish, and lacks a showy ovopositor. Sympetrum sanguineum usually thrives in wet environments, with still waters.
