Alexander Fleming (1881-1955) Scottish bacteriologist who discovered penicillin in 1928. In 1945 he shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine with Howard Florey (1898-1968) and Ernst Chain (1906-1979). Obverse of medal, 1945.
