St Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) giving alms to a beggar. After the death of her husband Louis IV, Landgrave of Thuringia, Germany (d1227) from plague while on crusade, she joined the Franciscan order and cared for the poor. 19th century French coloured woodcut.
