Jewish Cemetery in Prague, Czech Republic. 12,000 stones marking 100,000 burials. Dating back to the 15th century, this beit hayim (house of life) is Europe?s oldest surviving Jewish cemetery. The oldest known burial is the 1439 stone of Rabbi Avigdor Kara. The 18th-century tomb of Rabbi L〃w, who died in 1609, and his wife Perl, is a popular tourist draw, as it is covered with stones, coins, and prayers. The last burial took place in 1787.
