Colburn 1838. in the \"Narrative of the Surveying Voyages of HMS Adventure and Beagle\" Volume I. by Captain P.Parker King 1839. Captain Pringle Stokes of the Beagle committed suicide on board ship not far from where this scene was sketched. Fitzroy took control of the Beagle. On the second voyage of the Beagle with Darwin, Fitzroy hoped to return some native Fuegians he had taken to Britain after the first voyage. Over thirty years later Darwin wrote in the 'Descent of Man' (1871) \"the astonishment which I felt on first seeing a party of Fuegians on a wild and broken shore will never be forgotten by me, for the reflection at once rushed to my mind - such were our ancestors\"."
