Total solar eclipse, 30/08/1905. Artwork showing the Sun's corona during the total solar eclipse of 30 August 1905. This artwork was drawn by the British pathologist and artist Frederick George Dawtrey Drewitt (1848-1942). Drewiit, who exhibited at the Royal Academy, was part of an eclipse expedition from the British Astronomical Association observing the eclipse from the SS Ortona, off Torreblanca, Spain. Total solar eclipses usually occur less than once a year, and can only be seen from a small area of the Earth's surface. This drawing was done with the benefit of nearly the maximum time of totality (3 minutes and 46 seconds).
