Pseudomorphic crystal growth. Sample of fluorite crystals (cubic) that have been overgrown by quartz crystals (white) whilst retaining the shape of the fluorite. This process, where one mineral is overgrown by another while retaining the shape of the overgrown mineral, is known as pseudomorphosis. Small crystals of chalcopyrite (shiny) are also seen interspersed in this specimen. Sample width is 12 centimetres.
