Medical consultation. Satirical artwork titled: 'Doctor Blowbladder discovering the Perpetual Motion'. The artwork dates from 1772, and was printed in London. It shows a man taking the pulse of a young woman while seated on a couch sniffing the head of his cane (containing disinfectant). The satirical elements are the facial expressions, the wordplay in the title, and 'Blessed Medicine' on the vial (lower right), indicating that the man is a quack and not a true physician. This version is from 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine, 1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932).
