Baryte mineral sample. This mineral (white) is a form of barium sulphate. Here, it has formed lines of tabular crystals. The golden specks are of a copper and iron sulphide mineral called chalcopyrite. The chalcopyrite formed during a period of hydrothermal activity. This sample, from Dreislar in Germany, is 12 centimetres across.
