The first successful electrical telegraph was the Morse apparatus for sending and receiving coded telegraph messages, with the alphabet and numbers in 'Morse code.' Morse was assisted by scholar scientist Joseph Henry and a Morse employee, Albert Vail, who developed the 'Morse Code.' 1837.
