Ensisheim meteor fall. This is the oldest meteorite whose fall can be dated precisely, to noon on 7 November 1492. The arrival of the meteorite from above (upper right) was preceded by a loud explosion followed by an impact that formed a 1-metre deep crater in a wheat field (bottom). The remains of the meteorite were later put on display in the main hall of Ensisheim's 16th-century Regency Palace. The castle (left) was built in the 13th century.
