Kartagener Syndrome. Frontal X-ray of the lungs of a 28-year-old patient with Kartagener Syndrome. Also called primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), this is a rare inherited disorder of the body's cilia (including those lining the inside of the lungs). One of the signs of this disorder is situs inversus, the inversion of the internal organs. Here, the heart (lower left) and stomach (lower left) and liver (lower right) appear on the opposite (left-right) side of the body to normal. This patient also has nasal polyposis and chronic infection and inflammation of both the nose and throat (rhynopharyngitis) and obstructive lung disease (bronchiectasis).
