Lugworm casts. The lugworm (Arenicola marina) is a marine worm that lives in a burrow in mudflats. These casts of excavated sand are produced from the tail-end of the burrow. Either side of these casts are the ripples in the mudflat caused by water action at low tide. Photographed in December in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland.
