James McKeen Cattell (1860-1944), US psychologist. Cattell carried out his graduate studies in Germany, later becoming the first professor of psychology in the USA, at the University of Pennsylvania. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries, with photographs dating from the 1890s to the 1930s.
