Markhor goats (Capra falconeri), 19th century artwork. This wild goat is found in Asia, in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Here, a male, female and kid are depicted in a mountainous region. This goat has characteristic spiral twisted horns and a shaggy beard covering its front. It was classified as endangered in 2008, with only a few thousand mature individuals remaining in the wild. Artwork published in The Royal Natural History, volume 2 (1894), edited by the English naturalist Richard Lydekker (1849-1915).
