Full Moon. Pastel artwork of the Full Moon drawn by the British artist John Russell (1745-1806). Russell was considered one of the finest pastel artists of his time, famous for his portraits and a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. Between 1764 and 1805, he made many drawings and maps of the Moon, ranging from close-up details to complete images, and varying in phase from crescent to gibbous to the Full Moon shown here. This drawing shows details of the lunar craters and maria (lunar seas, dark areas).
