Oral contraception. Two packets of oral contraceptive pills. These pills contain synthetic versions of one or both of the female sex hormones responsible for ovulation (production of an egg, or ovum). The pills act to suppress ovulation and cause changes to the uterus (womb) to prevent fertilisation and pregnancy. The pills are taken daily for three weeks, with a break in the fourth week for menstruation. These are Microgynon 30 pills produced by Schering Health Care. They contain ethinylestradiol, a synthetic oestrogen, and levonorgestrel, a synthetic progesterone.
