Statue of Claude Louis Berthollet (1748-1822), French chemist. Berthollet, a contemporary of Lavoisier, worked with him and others on the new chemical nomenclature. He also carried out research on dyes, bleaches (including the use of chlorine as a bleach), and ammonia. Berthollet was one of the scientists who went to Egypt with Napoleon. In 1804, he became vice-president of the French Senate. This statue is located in Talloires, near Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie region of France. Talloires was the birthplace of Berthollet, and at the time was part of the Duchy of Savoy.
