U.S. mathematician, logician, and psychologist, best-known for developing a theory accounting for the development of colour vision on an evolutionary basis after studying in the laboratory of Helmholtz in Gottingen. She also made contributions to the study of colour-blindness and binocular vision. Her principal works are The Algebra of Logic (1883), The nature of Color Sensation (1925), Color and Color Theories (1929.
