Meningioma tumour. Light micrograph of a section through a meningioma. This is a benign (non-cancerous) tumour arising from the meninges (membranes) that surround the brain and spinal cord. This tumour arises from the dura mater (seen across bottom), the outermost of the meninges. The tumour cells produce whorls of collagen that have dense calcified psammona bodies (dark purple) at their centres.
