Alphonse Raymond Dochez (1882-1964), US medical researcher. Dochez studied the causes of diseases, and established that the common cold is caused by a virus. He also developed an antitoxin to counteract the bacterial toxin that causes scarlet fever. Photographed in the late 1930s.
