Active galaxy NGC 1275. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the filamentary structures surrounding the active galaxy NGC 1275. It is thought that these structures are formed by the strong magnetic field extending immense distances outwards from the central body of the galaxy. NGC 1275 is located in the constellation of Perseus and is around 230 million light years from Earth. The area seen here is around 260,000 light years across. This image was obtained in July and August 2006, using HST's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).
