Southern-banded newts (Ommatotriton vittatus) underwater. This amphibian, specifically a salamander, is found throughout many areas of the Middle East, the Caucasus, and parts of Russia. Like all salamanders it is a predator, feeding on small invertebrates, including insects and worms. Photographed in Israel.
