Apharitis cilissa butterflies mating while perched on a flowering plant. Like many other insects, butterflies mate by genital contact with the rear of their bodies while facing away from each other. After mating, the female lays the eggs, which hatch into caterpillars. Both male and female die soon after mating. Photographed in Israel.
