Lymphocytes in hair follicle, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Large numbers of lymphocytes (red) are seen in inflamed and necrotic tissue at the base of hair shafts (brown). This condition, where pus forms in skin diseases, is also known as pyoderma. Causes may be an infection, or an autoimmune disorder such as pyoderma gangrenosum.
