Full Moon. The dark grey areas are the lunar seas, which formed early in the Moon's history as lava (molten rock) flowed into large impact craters and solidified. The lighter areas are rocky highlands. In certain optical conditions, some areas of the Moon have a slight hue of colour, caused by the chemical composition of the lunar rocks. Photographed from Brittany, France.
