A camel stands tethered in the Ichan Kala, the old city of Khiva, with the Kalta Minaret behind. Mohammed Amin Khan meant this to be the tallest building in the Muslim world. Construction began in 1851 but after the khan died in 1855, his heir aborted the project. Nonetheless it has some of the city's most extravagant tiling (heavily restored) in blue, white, red and Khiva's hallmark green.
