Porters prepare their loads at John Matte Hut (11,200 feet). The local Bakonjo people provide most of the porterage for visitors to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The trees in the rear of the huts draped with old man's beard (Usnea) are tree heathers, which grow 30-50 feet high.
