A Rwandan girl makes a finely decorated screen to partition the interior of a traditional thatched house. The screens are made of split cane onto which an assortment of local, long-stemmed grasses are painstakingly sewn in differing patterns and designs. Only vegetable dyes are used. Nowadays, these screens are popular as wall decorations. This age-old craft is being taught to younger generations at the National Museum, Butare.
