A small girl sits outside her family home. Her body has been smeared with a mixture of red ochre, butterfat and herbs. Himba mothers cut their children's hair in several eye-catching styles. The child wears a round necklace, called ombwari, and a beaded belt from which hang her modest front and back leather garments. The Himba are Herero-speaking Bantu nomads who live in the harsh, dry but starkly beautiful landscape of remote northwest Namibia. Purros
