A fine old bull elephant with heavy tusks. Marsabit was renown for elephants with exceptional ivory. The largest elephant living there in the second half of the 20th century was called Ahmed. Given protection under a decree made by the late President Jomo Kenyatta, he died of old age. A remarkable life-size replica of him is displayed at the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi.
