Atlantic puffins (Fratercula arctica) on a rock. The Atlantic puffin breeds on the coasts of northern Europe, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and eastern North America, but spends the winter months at sea. They are 28-34 centimetres in length and have distinctive orange bill plates, which are shed after breeding in mid-May. Atlantic puffins have the same mate for many years and sometimes for life. Photographed in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
