This observatory and home was built from 1852 by the British amateur astronomer Richard Christopher Carrington (1826-1875), who was a Fellow, and later Secretary, of the Royal Astronomical Society. Artwork taken from the title page of Carrington's catalogue of 3735 circumpolar stars, published in London in 1857.
