Omental adhesion. This endoscope view shows adhesions between the omentum (yellow) and the wall of the uterus (upper, pink). The omentum is a membranous sac that hangs down from the stomach and covers the intestines. Adhesions are bands of scar tissue that form between organs, typically caused by infection, inflammation or surgery. Sometimes adhesions cause pain or dysfunction of the reproductive system, in which case they are removed through keyhole surgery of the abdomen (laparoscopy).
