The infection shows up as inflammatory exudates, yellow in colour, and results in necrosis (cell death) of brain tissues due to vessel thrombosis and ischemia. Bacterial meningitis is a life-threatening condition that requires emergency medical treatment. Symptoms include a stiff neck, aversion to light and a headache. A skin rash may also be present. Treatment is with high doses of intravenous antibiotics.
