Zeno. Bust of Zeno of Citium (336-265 BC), Greek philosopher and the founder of Stoicism. Nothing remains of his published works but his beliefs are known through the written accounts of his disciples. Zeno taught that humanity should live by a code of moral obligation, self-control and live in harmony with nature. The term Stoicism is derived from Stoa Poikile (painted porch), the structure from which he used to teach.
