Shostak (born 1943) is the senior astronomer at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute. He is involved with SETI's research, whose aim is to discover intelligent radio signals from alien civilisations. He is also involved with the outreach activities of the Institute. Shostak gained a PhD in astronomy from Caltech. He has carried out radio astronomy research on galaxies and published several papers in professional journals. Shostak has also written hundreds of popular astronomy articles and three books, and was awarded the Klumpke-Roberts Award (2004) by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.
