Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895), English biologist. Huxley was best known as insDarwin's Bulldogins due to his advocacy of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. In 1860 Huxley presented Darwin's theory at a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science at Oxford, where he faced an ardent opponent, Bishop Samuel Wilberfoce. Huxley won the day by demonstrating there were close similarities between the cerebal anatomy of humans and gorillas. Huxley invented the word insagnosticins as a means of expressing his religious beliefs.
