Galen (c.129-200 AD), Ancient Greek physician and anatomist, treating a gladiator in Pergamum. Now in Turkey, this Greek city-state was Galen's birthplace and where he gained his knowledge of human anatomy. He left Pergamum in 162 AD and travelled to Rome.
