MODEL RELEASED. Microbiology research. Worker in a clean room suit using gloved-arm access points to work with samples in a sealed area at a microbial fermentation unit facility. The facility works with fermentation units, equipment that provides optimal growing conditions for a culture of microorganisms. The units provide nutrients, remove waste products and maintain an optimal temperature for reproduction. The microorganisms being cultured have usually been genetically modified to produce a product they would not normally make. Such products can include antibodies, human hormones and enzymes. This work is being carried out by an employee of the UK's Health Protection Agency.
