Vineyard. Aerial view of a vineyard on black volcanic soil. The small depressions have been dug to accommodate one grape vine each. Small walls have been built along one side of each depression to prevent the hot prevailing wind from damaging the plants and eroding the soil. The wind blows from the bottom of this view. Volcanic soil is good for growing vines as it is rich in nutrients and can also absorb dew and moisture which the plants can use. Photographed in La Geria, Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
