Tyrannosaurus rex refurbishment. Technician welding new metal support armature onto the femur bone of a fossilised Tyrannosaurus rex (T-rex). This dinosaur is being refurbished at Phil Fraley Productions, USA, a company that specialises in renovating and re-building fossil skeletons for museum displays. To create an exhibit, the skeletons are taken apart and re-assembled onto a new metal support armature. The skeleton can then be posed in a more life-like posture. This exhibit will be re-displayed at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The original T-rex exhibit was mounted over 100 years ago in a posture that is now thought to be incorrect. The new display will feature the T-rex skeleton posed as if fighting over a fresh kill. Photographed in 2007.
