Jasper mineral breccia. Jasper is an impure form of quartz, a silicate mineral. This sample, with its large fragments of jasper, has been broken up by a natural physical process and then recompressed, cementing it into a breccia. This describes a rock made up of fragments within a matrix of a different material. The polished slab measures 150 millimetres across.
