Welwitschia plant (Welwitschia mirabilis). This is the oldest welwitschia plant known to man, thought to be about two and half thousand years old. This plant is endemic to the Namib desert. It has only two leaves which become frayed and torn in the desert winds. It survives by absorbing moisture from cool air. Photographed east of Swakopmund, Namibia, Africa.
