Orchid flower (Epidendrum jamiesonis). The lower petal of each flower, known as the lip, sticks outwards from the reproductive parts (yellow). It is a specialised petal that provides pollinators with a landing platform. This orchid is epiphytic, meaning that it grows on rocks or other plants for support, and obtains nutrients from the air and rain. It is found in tropical and subtropical regions. Photographed in Pichincha, Ecuador.
