Aden, Yemen. Satellite image of Aden in Yemen, a natural port built on an old volcanic site. Aden was ruled by the British from 1839 until 1967, when a mutiny forced the British out. Yemen became two independent states, with Aden becoming the capital of the communist People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in the south. Unification in 1990 saw the capital move to Sana'a.
