Young antarctic fur seal (Arctocephalus gazella) making a threat display. Mature males compete for territories and access to harems of females. Males are much larger than females, reaching a length of up to 2 metres and weighing up to 120 kilograms. Fur seals are classified as members of the family Otariidae (eared seals") due to their external ear-flaps (pinnae). They range throughout the Southern Ocean that surrounds Antarctica. They feed mainly on krill, but may eat squid and birds. Photographed on Bird Island, South Georgia."
